Situated in the scenic Bonjalo Region of the North West Province, Pilanesberg National Park was proclaimed in 1979 and covers an area of 55 000 hectares. From Bakgatla, guests can embark on game drives, walks and balloon safaris amongst many other activities for the whole family.
Pilanesberg National Park consists of numerous hills, wooded ravines and grassed open plains, creating very picturesque scenery. This wide eco-diversity makes a beautiful home for more than 35 species of large mammals, including the sought-after Big Five and more than 300 bird species.
The fascinating alkaline crater complex was produced by volcanic eruptions some 1300 million years ago. At the centre of the crater is a large lake from which the magnificent landscapes unfold. The rare rock types and structures make the crater a unique geological feature. Colourful hues, varied habitats and panoramic vistas will delight and entertain photographers and visitors.
